QUINCY (WGEM) - A property which was severely damaged during a fire in June is now set for demolition.
The Fix or Flatten Program in Quincy has existed since the 1990s and usually has a list of around a dozen properties set for demolition.
After a residence at 804 S 8th Street caught fire in late June, it was sent to the top of the list due to it posing what the city government calls extra hazardous circumstances.
“The thing that distinguishes this one is the fact that it doesn’t have doors and windows,” explained Michael Seaver, Quincy Director of Inspection and Enforcement.
Seaver said that damaged properties with open entrances can lead to a higher risk of squatters as well as other characteristics that pose a danger to the city.
“It’s only a matter of time before somebody gets i
