A Philadelphia Catholic school community is celebrating a new chapter more than two years after a devastating fire.

On March 21, 2023, a massive three-alarm fire started at the Our Mother of Consolation School on Chestnut Hill and Germantown avenues. Flames destroyed everything inside the historic school, which was built in 1887.

“It was completely like ripped in the middle,” Johnny Matthew, a student at the school, told NBC10. “And then the roof was like literally off.”

At the time, many community members wondered if they’d ever return to the building and a committee was formed the day after the fire. Two and a half years and more than $3 million later, the school has been rebuilt
