MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Former Shelby County Sheriff William "Bill" Oldham died, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday.

SCSO said Oldham died "peacefully surrounded by his loved ones." Oldham served as Shelby County Sheriff from 2010 until 2018. He was the sheriff when current Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner was SCSO's chief deputy.

Bonner released the following statement on Oldham's death:

“I was deeply saddened to hear that former Shelby County Sheriff Bill Oldham passed away earlier today. On behalf of all the men and women of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, I offer my prayers and deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Memphis and Shelby County. We are truly heartbroken.
