MEMPHIS, Tenn. - There's light at the end of the tunnel, or rather the street.
The City of Memphis announced Friday that Riverside Drive between Georgia Avenue and Beale Street will officially reopen on Monday. City officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on September 8 to commemorate the reopening.
The section of Riverside Drive has been closed since April, shutting down prior to Memphis in May. The City of Memphis said months of construction in the area have yielded improved access, safety, and enhanced the overall riverfront experience.
Those improvements include a two-lane road conversion to calm traffic and improve safety, new back-in angled parking to support safer access to Tom Lee Park and other riverfront destinations, and a more walkable, pedestrian-friendly
