OWENSBORO, Ind. (WFIE) - Daviess County officials announced there is a voluntary shelter in place for residents after the chemical fire in Newburgh.

They say based on the air quality readings in Indiana, residents should not be in danger.

Shelter in place means remaining indoors, closing all exterior windows and doors, and turning off all air condition units.

Authorities say until the air monitoring equipment operated by the Kentucky Division of Air Quality is in place and verifies the all clear, this voluntary shelter in place recommendation will remain in effect.

Residents in eastern Henderson received a shelter in place alert message for the areas of Baskett, Spottsville, Reed, Hebbardsville, Zion, Niagara and Robards.
