Nevada was saved by an interception, after being burned by two earlier in the game.
The Wolf Pack football team then was saved by two holding penalties -- and a wide field goal -- to pick up its first win of the season, 20-17, over Sacramento State on Saturday in front of an announced attendance of 20,535 fans at Mackay Stadium.
The Hornets led or were tied throughout, until Nevada linebacker Jonathan Maldonado got an interception and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown for the Pack with 2 minutes, 17 seconds left. That gave Nevada its first lead of the game, 20-17.
Two Sacramento State TDs in the final 30 seconds were nullified by holding penalties, then a potential game-tieing field goal was wide left.
Nevada held Sacramento State scoreless in the second half.
