SALEM Ore. (KPTV) - A Salem man is in custody after firing at officers during a burglary call Saturday afternoon, according to police.
Police say 33-year-old Vincent Mendoza-Chavex opened fire as officers arrived near the 4300 block of 25th Avenue NE around 1:30 p.m. One bullet hit a ballistic shield, and an officer received minor debris injuries.
The Salem SWAT Team and crisis negotiators responded and Mendoza-Chavex surrendered after a standoff. He was booked into jail on charges including attempted aggravated murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
