A Powerball drawing will be held tonight for an estimated $1.8 billion jackpot, marking the second-largest prize in both Powerball and U.S. lottery history.
After Wednesday's drawing failed to produce a winner, the jackpot rolled over from $1.7 billion, with a cash value now estimated at $826.4 million before taxes.
What Is the Powerball?
The Powerball lottery is one of the nation's largest multi-state lottery games. It is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and costs $2 per ticket.
Players select five numbers from 1 to 69 plus a separate "Powerball" number from 1 to 26, with drawings held three times a week. Jackpots start at $20 million and grow based on ticket sales and rollovers when no one matches all six numbers.
