NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Strong showers with rumbles of thunder have reformed in some of the higher elevations and these gusty storms are approaching from the west-northwest, moving through the Rio Grande Valley across the state.
Temperatures have dropped as a result of the rain as almost all areas were below the 90° in Southwest New Mexico while areas in the high terrain struggled to reach the high 50s to the low 60s.
West-northwesterly upper-level winds have remained with more moisture in combination with a dip in the jet stream, an east movement in the high pressure system that has moved east of Texas, and tropical moisture from Baja California.
