ROCKFORD, Ill. — Tensions are running high in Rockford as community advocates and city leaders join nationwide protests against the Trump administration.
The protests took place outside the Federal Courthouse in Rockford, following President Trump's threat to deploy the National Guard to Chicago to address crime, along with nationwide Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.
City leaders have spoken out, criticizing the president's actions as performative and aimed at instilling fear in communities.
"Trump wants to see chaos taking place in cities like Rockford," Mayor Tom McNamara said. "We are always so much stronger when we are unified and when we are together. Don't let him see that chaos. Let him see a bunch of people standing up saying not here, not in Rockford, not in the state
