The Detroit Lions face the Green Bay Packers in an NFC North affair Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field to start their 2025 seasons. Kickoff in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX). The Lions roared to a 15-2 record last year, tying the Kansas City Chiefs for the best record in football. They were upset by the Washington Commanders 45-31 in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs in a sour way to finish the year.

Now they begin life without offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Johnson took the head coaching job of the Chicago Bears, and Glenn took over the New York Jets. Will their continuity on both sides of the ball suffer? A lot of the pieces remain on offense, and the defensive line will benefit from stud DE Aidan Hutchinson's return to health.

The Packers finished 11-6 last year and fell to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round 22-10. They drafted WR Matthew Golden in the first round, which was the first time they took a receiver in the first round since 2002. It's needed, too, as WR Christian Watson (knee) is out, and WRs Jayden Reed (foot) and Dontayvian Wicks (calf) are both questionable.

QB Jordan Love (thumb) had surgery on his left, non-throwing thumb in the preseason as well. Expect him to heavily rely on RB Josh Jacobs with so many moving parts in the receiving corps. They made their biggest splash a week ago, though, trading for DE/LB Micah Parsons. He is also dealing with a back issue and is questionable.

The Lions won both matchups last year, 24-14 in Green Bay in November, and 34-31 at home in December. The Packers enter this one a little too banged up for me to side with. The Lions have a lot to prove offensively after losing their offensive mastermind at offensive coordinator, but their pieces have been in place for a few years. So, while there may be a half-step backwards, the continuity is there.

Over/Under

The Packers were 8-9-1 O/U last year while the Lions were 10-8. We mentioned both teams had critical changes in their offenses, and this feels like a game that the running backs will dictate the pace. With both sides needing to gel on offense, I'll take the UNDER 47.5 (-110). The Under cashed in a 24-14 Lions win at Lambeau last year.
