An emergency alert will reach millions of phones today as the government tests an early warning system designed to sound a loud alarm through compatible devices.
The alert, which is intended to warn Brits of impending and ongoing disasters such as an extreme weather event or a terrorist attack, will sound a siren-like tone at 3pm today.
