NEW YORK — Luis Gil said postgame that he was completely confident Cody Bellinger would throw Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette out at home plate when the Yankees were protecting a one-run lead in the sixth inning on Saturday afternoon.
Bellinger’s picture-perfect toss to Austin Wells at home plate preserved that lead for the Yankees, the final sequence in Gil’s six-inning outing that featured only one run allowed, his third win since returning from the injured list.
