In response to letter to the editor “ We’re finally telling the truth about soft parents and their kids, ” I invite the author to consider James E. Causey’s comments in context to see the bigger picture (Aug. 31).
While James E. Causey’s column, “Let’s be honest about role of ‘soft parenting’ on kids ,” rightly highlighted personal responsibility of Milwaukee parents, he regularly shares nuanced and historically aware views of social issues in Milwaukee (Aug. 10).
I have learned from him and other leaders that the narrative of personal responsibility is inadequate to explain the chronic economic disparity, poor educational outcomes, gun violence and other crimes, and high levels of incarceration sometimes associated with Milwaukee.
