Albuquerque Fire and Rescue marked a historic milestone yesterday by staffing an engine company with an all-female crew for the first time in its 125-year history.

One of the firefighters, Driver Burns, has spent 26 years serving with the department.

According to the nonprofit Women in Fire, as of 2020, about 9% of firefighters nationwide were women. Only 6% of fire chiefs were female. Both statistics have been on the rise in recent decades.
