GRAND FORKS — The final five laps of the 19th annual John Seitz Late Model Memorial Invitational were the most harrowing of Cole Schill's racing career.
And they also were the most rewarding.
Schill survived a wild finish to win the 92-lap Seitz feature at River Cities Speedway on Saturday night, the biggest win of his career and one that was worth $9,200.
Schill led for 30 laps until hard-charging Tyler Peterson grabbed the lead with 17 laps remaining. Schill, however, snuck past Peterson with five circuits remaining and held on for the win,
"By far, this is the biggest win of my career," said Schill. "Honestly, nothing is going to top this."
The win had special meaning for Schill. HIs father, the late Howie Schill, and Seitz raced against each other and were good friends.
