RICHMOND, Va. — Although no jackpot-winning tickets in the September 6 Powerball drawing were purchased in Virginia, the Commonwealth still saw a boost from the nationwide frenzy.
Over the 42 drawings leading up to the $1.787 billion jackpot, Virginia Powerball ticket sales generated an estimated $29.6 million in profit, all of which is legally allocated to K-12 public education.
During Saturday’s drawing alone, more than 266,000 Virginia tickets won prizes. Among them were five tickets worth $100,000, purchased at locations across the state including Barren Springs, Farmville, Richmond, Stafford, and Winchester. Four tickets won $50,000 each, bought in Fairfax, Henrico, Manassas, and one online through the Virginia Lottery app.
