CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Florida native Parker Messick turned in another solid start Sunday as the Guardians beat the Rays in Tampa 2-1.
Messick (2-0) went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 8 hits while fanning four.
Cade Smith struck out the side in the 9th for his 11th save.
The Guardians take 3 of 4 in Tampa to finish their 7-game trip 4-3.
Cleveland remains 2.5 games behind Seattle for the final AL wild card spot.
The Guardians took a 2-1 lead in the 6th on an RBI triple by Jose Ramirez and a run-scoring single by Gabriel Arias.
The Guardians return home Monday to open a 4-game set with Kansas City, followed by 3 with the White Sox.
