DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers, fighting to earn a No. 1 playoff seed by securing the best record in the American League, didn’t help their case this weekend by losing a series to the team with the worst record in the league.

The Chicago White Sox capitalized on nine walks in a shaky day for Tigers pitchers, beating Detroit 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park. The Tigers (82-62) dropped two of three to the White Sox (55-89).

Tigers starter Charlie Morton endured a bumpy three-inning outing, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks.

Andrew Benintendi put the White Sox ahead 2-0 with a two-run double in the first inning.
