CLEVELAND, Oh. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – For the first time since 2021, the Cincinnati Bengals have won their season opener, narrowly defeating Cleveland 17-16. That year also marked their last super bowl appearance.
The Bengals offense produced just 46 yards on the ground, running back Chase Brown accounted for 43 of them and one touchdown. Quarterback Joe Burrow completed 14 of his 23 pass attempts for 113 yards and one touchdown, connecting with Noah Fant in the end zone for Fant’s first score as a Bengal.
The Cincinnati defense held the Browns to just 46 rushing yards but gave up 290 yards in the air. However, DJ Turner II and Jordan Battle both had crucial interceptions in the second half, helping stop Cleveland’s momentum. The defense had 86 total tackles in Sunday’s game.
