CHICAGO -- A ninth-inning leadoff home run by Robert Hassell III sparked a 6-3 comeback win for the Nationals at Wrigley Field on Sunday afternoon.
After struggling to get runners on base for eight innings -- Washington recorded seven straight outs to start the game and 11 in a row from the fifth through eighth innings – Hassell jumped on Cubs closer Daniel Palencia’s triple-digit fastball to pull the Nationals within a run, 3-2. CJ Abrams singled and James Wood ahead of pinch-hitter Josh Bell , who deposited another Palencia fastball into the basket in left-center field to give the Nationals the lead.
Palencia left the game after Daylen Liles tripled to right field, and Brady House added a run on a sacrifice fly against Porter Hodge to cap off a five-run inning for the Nationals.
