Theodossia “Lucy” Hatzinkolis was back in familiar surroundings, enjoying Greek food and a special treat of warm loukoumades.
The puffs of fried dough, covered in honey and cinnamon, were a sweet ending to the day.
“I just love them when they are warm,” Ms. Hatzinkolis said. “I am 91 so I had to come. I do not know how many more I will be able to come to.”
Ms. Hatzinkolis coordinated volunteers at the Greek-American Festival from 1986 to 2014. Her family has a long history at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Her parents, Helen and Nicholas Sfakianos, were married alongside her mother’s twin sister, Despina, and her husband Panagiotis, at the church in 1928.
“I had so much fun working the festival,” Ms. Hatzinkolis said. “It was fun to give back to the church.”
