PORT ALLEN, La. (WAFB) - The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating the death of 26-year-old Nicholas Henderson, who was found unresponsive inside a lockdown cell Sunday morning (Sept. 7).

According to officials, Henderson’s cellmate alerted deputies just after 11 a.m. Correctional staff responded and began first aid until medical personnel arrived, but Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death will be determined by the parish coroner following an autopsy.

Just days earlier, Henderson was charged with second-degree battery following an altercation with another inmate. He had been moved to an isolation cell after the incident.
