Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (17) celebrates after a touchdown during the first half at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sept. 7, 2025.

Daniel Jones made his starting debut for the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The 28-year-old quarterback vastly exceeded expectations.

Jones led the Colts to a 33-8 rout of the Dolphins. He was accurate throughout the contest and consistently kept the chains moving in a game during which Indianapolis outgained Miami 418-211.

How good was Jones? The 2019 first-round pick led the Colts to points on all seven of their drives during the game. NFL Network's Scott Hanson reported on the Week 1 "NFL RedZone" broadcast that no quarterback this century has led his team to points on every possession of a game.

Jones also helped the Colts snap an ignominious Week 1 losing streak. Indianapolis hadn't won its season opener since 2013, when the Colts beat the then-Oakland Raiders 21-17. At the time, Chuck Pagano was Indianapolis' coach while Andrew Luck was in his second season as the team's starting quarterback.

Here's a full statistical breakdown of Jones' Colts debut:

Daniel Jones stats today

Jones completed 75.9% of his passes against the Dolphins and posted a 115.9 passer rating, the eighth-best single-game mark of his career. Below is a look at his full stats from the game:

  • Completions/attempts (%): 22/29 (75.9%)
  • Passing yards: 272
  • Passing TDs: 1
  • INTs: 0
  • Yards/attempt: 9.4
  • Rating: 115.9
  • Carries: 7
  • Rushing yards: 26
  • Rushing TDs: 2

Sunday's game marked just the fourth in Jones' 71 career regular-season games during which he recorded multiple rushing touchdowns. His last such performance came in Week 17 of the 2022 NFL season, when he scored twice on the ground against the Colts while with the New York Giants.

Sunday was also just the 19th time in Jones' career that he didn't throw an interception or fumble the ball. The Colts won the turnover battle 3-0 against the Dolphins thanks, in part, to Jones' ball security.
