The 50-year-old mother-of-two will be sentenced in the Victorian Supreme Court after a jury in July found her guilty of serving four members of her estranged husband’s family a meal laced with death cap mushrooms in 2023.

Justin Quill from Thompson Gear law firm says Patterson is facing a “massive whack of a sentence” - potentially decades behind bars.

“There’s no doubt at all she is going to get a massive whack of a sentence. Many, many years, decades in fact,” Quill said.

“The real question is going to be, is it life without parole? Or does she have a chance of seeing the outside of a prison cell at some point in her life?”
