AUBURN, Ala. ( WTVM /Gray News) - Authorities in Alabama said they have arrested a suspect after a retired professor from Auburn University was found dead in a park Saturday.

The Auburn Police Department said Harold Rashad Dabney III was charged Sunday with two counts of capital murder related to the death of 59-year-old Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle.

Authorities said Gard Schnuelle’s body was found Saturday in a wooded area of Kiesel Park Saturday afternoon.

Investigators said she had injuries that indicated an assault caused her death.

Police responded the following day to call for a suspicious person spotted about four miles from Kiesel Park around 8:30 a.m.

Police said the suspect was identified as Dabney, and officers made observations that they believe connected him to Gard Schnuel
