VALPARAISO, Ind. — Officials in northern Indiana say they have reopened all railroad crossings roughly 22 hours after a Saturday evening train derailment forced their closures.
According to a release from the Valparaiso Police Department , around 11 p.m. on Sept. 6, officers were called to assist the Fort Wayne to Chicago Railroad with a multi-car train derailment along the east-west track in Valparaiso.
Police said all impacted train cars were empty vehicle haulers that remained upright during the derailment.
As part of the investigation, six different railroad crossings across Valparaiso were closed. Police initially did not give a timetable for when the crossings would reopen, but said the closures may be "extensive."
