NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The 12-year-old boy found dead in a New Orleans East lagoon last month escaped twice mere weeks before a third disappearance resulted in an alligator attack that ended his life, according to records filed in Criminal District Court.

New Orleans police arrested 34-year-old Hilda Vasquez, 12-year-old Bryan Vasquez’s mom, this weekend and booked her into the Orleans Justice Center on counts of negligent homicide and second-degree cruelty to juveniles.

In an affidavit for her arrest warrant, detectives spell out an extensive history of abuse against Bryan, including two Department of Child and Family Services reports, one of which resulted in a cruelty to juveniles conviction against Vasquez when Bryan was an infant.
