NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Firefighters and police officers laced up their skates Sunday for the fifth annual 9/11 Memorial Hockey Game at the Ford Ice Center in Bellevue.
The game goes beyond a friendly rivalry between the Nashville Fire Department and the Metro Nashville Police Department. It’s meant to give back to the community and honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
"One of the guys that plays with us was actually at Ground Zero," said Josh Lackey, captain of the Nashville Fire Hockey Club. "He was a firefighter for FDNY, and I think actually it was before he got on, he ended up at Ground Zero helping, and then had a career there until his was actually cut short a little bit due to some complications from all the things he was breathing in."
