BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The University of Alabama at Birmingham is expecting record-breaking freshman enrollment for the fall 2025 semester.
UAB Senior Vice Provost for Enrollment & Student Success Bradley Barnes said the freshman class increased by about 25%, which is about 550 more students than last year.
This is happening even with the “enrollment cliff” on the horizon. That’s the predicted decline in college enrollment due to lower birth rates, resulting in fewer high school and college students.
Barnes said they don’t expect to see the effects of the “enrollment cliff” until next year but they’re planning ahead.
For now, the jump in enrollment is encouraging. Barnes said a survey shows students are choosing UAB for their academic reputation, scholarships, and city life.
