BBC Breakfast's Sally and Jon announce 'breaking news' minutes into show

BBC Breakfast 's Sally Nugent and Jon Kay kicked off Monday's show with a breaking news bulletin.

As the breaking news banner flashed across the screen, the BBC hosts announced that Australian 'mushroom murderer' Erin Patterson has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Patterson was found guilty of murdering three family members and attempting to murder another by serving a beef wellington laced with poisonous mushrooms in 2023.

Starting the programme on Monday (September 8), Sally informed viewers: "The judge said Erin Patterson would not be eligible for parole for 33 years."

The broadcast then switched to the Supreme Court of Victoria, showing Justice Beale pronouncing the sentence, reports the Express .
