A restaurant in Newtown that has been around for decades has announced it is permanently closing weeks after a car crashed into it.

In a statement, Mexicali Rose said, "after nearly 30 years of serving Newtown, it is with heavy hearts that we share that Mexicali Rose will be closing its doors."

According to the restaurant, a member of their team is dealing with health challenges and they want to focus on caring for her and supporting her.

The announcement also comes nearly two weeks after a car crashed into the restaurant.

Newtown Hook & Ladder said crews responded to the restaurant on South Main Street around 9:30 a.m. on Aug, 26 and they found one person trapped in a car that had gone through the front window.
