The MBTA will begin cracking down Monday on passengers who evade paying their fares.

The MBTA's Fare Engagement Department will conduct fare checks at subway stations and onboard vehicles. Riders who don't pay their fare will be issued a warning or a fare citation. Latest Forecast

In October of last year, the T hired 16 Fare Engagement Representatives to answer rider questions about fares. They're the people wearing blue shirts.

According to the T, within the first several weeks, fare collection increased by up to 35% at stations where the new Fare Engagement Representatives were on-site.
