COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed a third measles case in 2025, involving an unvaccinated Upstate resident who traveled internationally.
Despite no known specific exposure to someone with measles, the individual had returned from a country with an ongoing outbreak. They are now isolating at home.
The health department is conducting a contact investigation. Dr. Linda Bell emphasizes the importance of vaccination to prevent the spread of measles, a highly contagious virus characterized by fever, cough, runny nose, and rash.
“Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that affects the respiratory tract, and can result in serious complications affecting the brain, blood cells, complications in pregnancy, and long-term neurologic ef
