An Auburn University professor has been identified as the woman found slain in Kiesel Park.

Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton on Sunday identified the victim as Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle. She was 59.

Gard was a full professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

According to her bio, she studied veterinary medicine at Auburn and biology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

She received her Ph.D. in biomedical sciences at Auburn. Her specialties included dairy production, bovine embryology and canine reproduction.

University officials said they will be releasing a statement later this morning.
