COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed a case of measles in the Upstate, the third in the state since July.

DPH stated Monday morning that the person affected is unvaccinated and has had no previous exposure to measles. The agency added that the person traveled internationally to a country with an ongoing measles outbreak and wasn’t contagious while traveling.

DPH said the infected person is isolating at home and the agency has begun a contact investigation and is notifying people who may have been exposed.

Measles is highly contagious and can be spread through breathing, coughing, or sneezing. The area where an infected person was can remain infectious for two hours.
