One person is in custody Monday after they turned themselves into police in connection with a hit and run collision that left one woman dead in Gardena.

NBC 4 reported the fatal collision occurred just before 11 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of South Western Avenue and 148th Street, near the popular West End Kitchen. The driver struck the woman and did not stop to assist the woman or call for help.

The woman was with her son when the driver struck her, according to NBC 4.

According to reports from the scene, the fleeing driver left one of their bumpers and license plates at the scene of the collision.

The California Highway Patrol has issued a SigAlert for the closure of the intersection of South Western Avenue and 148th Street, where debris from the crash was strewn along the site
