OSWEGO N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Around sunrise Monday, September 8, work to transform Oswego Speedway from a 5/8ths asphalt oval to a 5/8ths clay oval for Super DIRT Week began.

According to the Super DIRT Week website, nearly 500 truckloads of clay will be distributed over the ⅝ mile asphalt track. DIRTcar, in conjunction with Gypsum Express, will lead the track effort to lay and compact the material, preparing the track over a three-week period, allowing time for the dirt to settle.

A concrete gravity block barrier will be installed along the inner wall to preserve the drainage and wall heights.

Once the track is laid, it will be prepared as any other dirt track by compacting and tilling the clay and adding water. The dirt will be removed and stockpiled immediately after the event.
