HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — There was more than double the amount of citations given out last year as Huntsville Police focus on school zone safety.
Between August 4–29, officers conducted 249 traffic stops, issued 234 citations and gave 72 warnings to drivers ignoring school zone rules during their Zero in the Zone initiative.
"The first month of the school year can be hectic for many, but HPD worked to make sure every student’s trip to and from school was a safe one. Safety isn’t just a back-to-school thing, it's a year-round effort," said the Huntsville Police Department.
