MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Sept. 20,2025 will kick off the 9th annual River Rat Paddle Challenge.
The race is comprised of 7.7 miles long and includes divisions for paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks. Divisions for men, women and children will also be included in the race.
This event is open to all ages, but life jackets will be required.
Proceeds of the race will benefit the Kiroli Foundation and ACE Charter School.
Organizers Dawn Stanfield and Stephanie Hermann said they’re hoping for 200 participants for this year’s event. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and Stephanie Hermnann referred to it as " Mardi Gras on the water".
Racers will paddle down the scenic Ouachita River before crossing the finish line at Lazarre Park.
