DANBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Danbury police say someone is pretending to be Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves over text messages.

On Monday, police issued the scam alert, saying the text usually asks the recipient for help in some way.

If you receive a suspicious text, you're asked not respond. If it's a suspicious call, just hang up, and don't provide personal or financial information, police said.

Instead, report suspicious texts to police at 203-797-4611.
