Two rare yak calves have been born in Newcomb, a small town in upstate New York.

The small business, Cloudsplitter Outfitters, said the first calf came as a surprise. It was born on Aug. 5. Not long after, another yak gave birth to Cloudsplitter's second calf.

The business owners told sister station NBC5 that these were the first yaks ever born in Newcomb. Both calves also have what's known as a "royal golden" coat pattern, which is extremely rare. According to Cloudsplitter, there are only 60 yaks of this kind registered in the United States.

Cloudsplitter said the mothers and babies are both doing well.
