Charleston-native Stephen Colbert is once again in the spotlight as his “Late Show” took home its first-ever Emmy on Sept. 7 after the recent news of its cancellation caused a stir.

The long-running program earned a Creative Arts Emmy Award for outstanding directing for a variety series, winning for an episode that featured David Oyelowo, Finn Wolfhard and Alan Cumming, along with a performance by the rock band OK Go.

Colbert, who grew up on James Island, has previously won 10 Emmys in his career, but this is the first time “The Late Show” has been awarded one. Since this iternation of “The Late Show” went on air in 2015, it has amassed 30 Emmy nominations .
