NORTH CHARLESTON — The state Department of Social Services and local police are investigating allegations of child abuse and a cover-up at a new preschool and daycare center that opened this summer.

An employee of Sweetgrass Christian Academy on Remount Road reportedly “yanked” an infant girl up by her arms, “forcibly” shook her several times and “slammed” her down into a crib in July.

Several minutes later, the employee allegedly picked up the child again and began “smacking the top of the child’s head several times,” according to an incident report the North Charleston Police Department provided to The Post and Courier on Sept. 8.
