The first Black-led cast to star in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club on Broadway is ending its run early. Originally scheduled to play through October 19, the production has revealed that it will now end on September 21. Billy Porter, who had been playing the role of the emcee in the production, had to leave the show due to illness and will not return for the final performances, according to a statement from the show’s producers.
The musical, which had been running with multiple star castings since its return to Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre in New York City, had proudly announced that Porter and Marisha Wallace would take over the leading roles of the emcee and Sally Bowles on Broadway this past July. The duo was coming off their successful run in London’s West End.
