Court records Monday revealed new details about the weekend arrest of Hilda Vasquez , the mother of a non-verbal boy who left his home in New Orleans East last month in only a diaper, sparking a search that ended 12 days later when his body turned up in a nearby lagoon.

According to police, the short life of 12-year-old Bryan Vasquez was defined by negligence and physical abuse at the hands of his mom, with his grisly death a tragic consequence.

Hilda Vasquez, 34, was booked into the Orleans Parish jail on a count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles and negligent homicide, police said. Both counts carry a maximum 10-year sentence upon conviction.
