CINCINNATI (WXIX) - After hours of back-and-forth on several versions of public safety packages and line-items, a motion that invests $5.42 million into policing, technology and community outreach passed Cincinnati’s Budget and Finance Committee Monday.

Funding for public safety has become an increasingly important issue for Cincinnati leaders and residents following the rate of youth-involved crime, the July brawl that caught national attention and the lack of officers in the Cincinnati Police Department.

“We can’t wait until next year,” Councilman Jeff Cramerding previously said. “There’s always medium-term and long-term solutions, but this money is for right now.”
