FLUSHING, MI - The City of Flushing has completed the purchase of the former LaFontaine Building, a move the city manager said will provide a new home for the Department of Public Works (DPW) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Mayor Ed Sullivan and City Clerk Monica Zofchak signed the final paperwork on Monday, Sept. 8, officially transferring ownership of the facility to the city.
The city paid $2.4 million for the property. The purchase and the renovations will be paid for with a $4 million bond that Flushing closed on last week, City Manager Michelle King told MLive-The Flint Journal.
The purchase is expected to save Flushing an estimated $4 million compared to constructing a new building. The acquisition will not require a tax increase for residents.
