A 5.1-MAGNITUDE earthquake has rattled Athens.

The quake struck off the coast of Evia island, near the Greek capital, on Tuesday morning.

The quake, of magnitude 5.2, struck at a depth of 2.3 kilometres, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute.

The earthquake hit shortly before 12.30 at night - before a smaller aftershock followed 15 minutes later, measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale.

There are no reports of damage or fatalities.
