(WJET/WFXP)-- One man is dead after police said he led them on a motorcycle chase in Ashtabula County, Ohio, that lasted more than 20 minutes and ended in gunfire.

According to the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department, the chase started with a traffic stop for an unregistered motorcycle around 2:41 pm Monday near the intersection of Dwight Street and East 48th Street in the City of Ashtabula.

Police said the motorcycle driver led them on a chase lasting about 23 minutes that involved deputies and an Ohio Highway Patrol unit before the driver crashed at the intersection of Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road and Anderson Road in Pierpoint Township, causing the motorcycle to catch on fire while they took off on foot.
